Kenya-Uganda Rail service concessionaire Rift Valley Railways (RVR) has moved a notch higher in its ongoing corporate efficiency enhancement process with the unveiling of a Kshs 114 million Information Technology framework.

The IT infrastructure which will form RVR’s core enterprise resource planning (ERP) solution has been developed and integrated by QAD, an American Enterprise Applications solutions provider.

Speaking during a commissioning ceremony for the new solution, Rift Valley Railways CEO Mr Roy Puffett confirmed that the new ERP solution will provide the necessary online support for RVR’s operations. “RVR has formally moved Kenya’s rail service operations from the hitherto manual process to a fully computerized operation,” he said.

Alongside the computer systems upgrades, Puffett disclosed that RVR has committed to invest more than Kshs 292.5 million in various IT systems upgrades which will result in increased efficiency.

“For RVR, this day formally marks the beginning of a revolution in our corporate efficiency degree given that we shall now be operating on an appropriately designed computer services solution,” Puffett said.

And added: “this new ERP solution when fully commissioned will afford us an opportunity to cost effectively manage our freight and passenger services through an online solution networking major stations along the Mombasa-Kampala line. The integration of the ERP solution is part of RVR’s ongoing information technology upgrade project.”

Speaking during the signing, QAD Business Development Executive Andre van Vuuren explained that the firm has integrated four core systems which include the QAD Base Enterprise Application for financial management, customer management, and supply chain management.

Vuuren said QAD has also integrated an Enterprise Asset Management solution that when fully operational will enable RVR to actively manage QAD Transportation Management System (QAD TMS) is an integrated system that streamlines transportation processes, reduces costs and ensures compliance.

QAD TMS is focused on the execution aspects of the shipping process. QAD Enterprise Applications provide robust functionality for managing operations and resources within and beyond the enterprise.

This functionality enables global companies to collaborate with customers, suppliers and partners dependent upon customers’ business needs, business models, territory of operations and languages. RVR commissions a Kshs 114million Information Technology framework
